Summer on the Mar Menor: 14 days of sun, golf and gastronomy in Los Alcázares
Anyone looking for a holiday full of relaxation and activity this summer will find the perfect destination in the charming coastal town of Los Alcázares on the Mar Menor. A Dutch traveller recently stayed here for fourteen days and put together a varied programme in which golf, culture, gastronomy and beach came together effortlessly.
Beach, promenade and charming squares
Los Alcázares offers over 7 kilometres of beaches, with Playa de Los Narejos and Playa de la Concha being favourites. The promenade along the waterfront is perfect for an evening stroll or a coffee at sunrise. The peaceful atmosphere and views of the Mar Menor make it one of the best kept secrets in the Murcia region.
Golfing at the highest level
Golf enthusiasts will be in their element. Four different courses were played: La Serena Golf, Roda Golf, Mar Menor Golf and the absolute highlight: Las Colinas Golf & Country Club. The latter is about a 40-minute drive away and has been voted one of the most beautiful courses in Spain several times.
Culinary indulgence: dining with a view
During the stay, we ate at highly rated restaurants no less than seven times. Favorites included:
La Tropical (local classics with sea view),
Run Restaurante (sushi & Asian fusion),
La Casa de Papel (stylish Spanish dining),
and Balneario San Antonio, spectacularly located on a pier in the sea.
Restaurants such as Ugly Coyote, The Lounge Bar and Pearl's Plaice also provided culinary surprises.
Excursions to the city and beach
A day trip to historic Cartagena, just a 30-minute drive away, provided a nice change of pace. Visitors strolled past Roman ruins and enjoyed the vibrant city life. There was also plenty of shopping to be done in the local markets and shopping malls such as Dos Mares and Las Velas.
A holiday to look forward to
These two weeks in Los Alcázares show how versatile this destination is. Sun, peace and space go together effortlessly with active days on the golf course and culinary evenings by the water.
Los Alcázares proves itself once again as the place to be for travellers looking for comfort, quality and experience on the Costa Cálida.
